What is an educated estimate for the retrieval of data from my damaged hard-drive?

I am told the discs are scratched and that retrieval costs will be high.

Well, I used Disk Labs (www.disklabs.com) in the UK and it cost around £450 in 2007. It depends how valuable the data is on the disk to make a decision on whether you’re going to pay it or not.

Is the disk not showing up in your BIOS? If it actually shows in the BIOS you may be able to use a program like Spinrite to make the disk temporarily readable again.
